Brigandine (BRIGANDINE.WAD)

BRIGANDINE
by Aline "Viggles" Bee

Back in 2015, Viggles made an explosive return to the Doom community - after only having released a few deathmatch levels back in 1996 - with the publication of Breach. The first of a two-part series, it began as a single level but had to be split because it was on the verge of exceeding the extended limits of most source ports. Brigandine isn't the fairly-anticipated sequel but it is another MAP01 replacement for Doom II for limit-removing ports, this time released in 2017. Bestor's original conception was a "quickie" given the scope of the work they'd performed for Breach but the end result appears to indicate that every map of them is capable of becoming a long, torrid love affair.

Breach (BREACH.WAD)

BREACH
by Aline "Viggles" Bee

Every now and then, an author comes along to show us just what kind of depth of detail you can get out of Doom in a limit-removing setting. And, every now and then, one of those people manages to pair it with cool gameplay. Breach, a MAP01 replacement for Doom II  released in 2015, is the first thing Bee has done since a couple of deathmatch levels they kicked out waaaay back in 1996. It's just like they say - they come back. They always come back. Actually, Breach is only half of Bee's intended experience, since the author actually ran up against the NEW seg limit. Supposing they finds themself motivated, we might get to see the second part. And, uh, I'd be very excited to play it.
